Free Zoom Parent Education Workshop: GIFTED+ABA 4 ASD

  • Midwest Academy for Gifted Education 1164 North Milwaukee Avenue Chicago, IL, 60642 United States (map)

This is a 3-part Series on ABA. It includes an episode on ASD, an episode on common daily, non-medical but still frustrating gifted problems, and a “my kid has major challenges that are inflicting daily suffering on my child and on my family and I can’t sleep at night, I am at a loss, HELP!’ episode for your hardest stuff too, so bring it, we got your back. ABA an often misunderstood, frequently not covered by insurance, but very useful tool for a variety of challenges including but not limited to anxiety, executive functioning, starting and completing tasks like homework or chores, compulsive behavior, and other challenges. How does it work? How is it different from other therapies? How is it specifically applicable for gifted children? MAGE dedicated the programming this year exclusively to health supports for the community due to the extra strain placed on the community by the pandemic. We hope to be more balanced with non-health issues in the 2022-2023 year like in previous years! This year, there was so much need in the health area and not enough resources and support

Part 1 of 3: GIFTED+ABA 4 ASD. TUESDAY, April 26, 8:30 PM CST for 60 minutes

While ABA has many applications, we wanted to host something about ASD tools and supports in honor of Autism Awareness month. For gifted kids with ASD, it sometimes feels like there is no support. Many of them are just “too high functioning” to need help. Much of the challenges actually happens at home, not in school. Can ABA help? Come learn how ABA works for gifted kids. We will specifically look at 2 things that are sometimes challenging for many gifted kids (no ASD required!) Writing Homework & Brushing Teeth! Dr. Iannotta-Bieszczad will explain how ABA might help and also dive into specific challenges with ASD like vocal stimming, unexpected language in various settings. Your child need not have ASD in order to benefit from this workshop! These things are pretty universal. When registering, you will have a chance to submit your questions and we will cover off as many as possible during the Question and Answer section. The lecture portion will be recorded. The Q and A will not be, and you will be able to send messages to the moderator for privacy if you choose to. Insurance coverage, and all the nuts and bolts of this therapy will be covered.
